Area athletes strike gold at New Hampshire Senior Games Candlepin Bowling Tournament Manchester, NH: Star bowlers from across New Hampshire battled for state supremacy in the 2017 NH Senior Games Candlepin Bowling Tournament, held Friday June 30th at Lakeside Lanes in Manchester. Among the many stand-outs was Fred LaFontaine of Concord. “I very much enjoy the sport,” he said. “It’s a lot of fun and keeps the blood flowing.” Mr. LaFontaine, who will turn 90 years old this fall, captured a gold medal. An avid bowler, he has competed in the games for the past three years. Later this summer, Mr. LaFontaine will team with 89-year-old Gloria Benjamin of Goffstown in mixed doubles at the Pickleball Tournament. Participating in the NH Senior Games for the first time ever was Christina Gaudet-Pelletier. More than 500 athletes will be participating in the 30th annual New Hampshire Senior Games this summer.
“Thirty years is a great milestone and people, many of them elderly, continue to enjoy competing against others in their same age group,” said chairman George Tosatti of Manchester. “This summer we’re offering 16 different sporting events and there’s still time for people to register.”

BIRMINGHAM, AL – The winner’s podium at the National Senior Games in Birmingham, AL, had a local feel as Granite State athletes captured numerous medals during the two-week event (June 2- 15).
“It’s a terrific testament to the skills of these competitors- as well as all of the other NH athletes who competed in Birmingham,” said George Tosatti, Chair – New Hampshire Senior Games. “They really had a great showing for our state.”

Area athletes ring up some solid scores in annual Horseshoe Tournament Nashua, NH: Greely Park was the scene as the 30th annual NH Senior Games kicked off with the annual Horseshoe tournament on Sunday, June 25th. A dedicated group of athletes competed in singles and doubles with several stand-out performances. 89- year-old Gloria Benjamin captured a gold medal in the 85-89 singles division. The Goffstown resident, who has been taking part in senior sports for many years, says she not only enjoys the competition, but also the camaraderie that comes with sports. “You are able to meet the nicest people at the events,” she shared. “Sports really bring people together.” Ms. Benjamin also competes in Pickleball and Shuffleboard, both of which are competed later this summer as part of the NH Senior Games.
